Almost originally coined Sunnydale, the city of Lauderhill is located in north-central Broward County. It contains a population of over 67,000 residents. Our law firm initially started in the city of Lauderhill, on Oakland Park Boulevard, where we were located from 1981 through 1992. Jackie Gleason lived in the Inverrary section of Lauderhill up until his death in 1987. Since then, the community has changed substantially.

When our law practice was located on Oakland Park Boulevard, pretty much directly across from Inverrary, several incidents occurred that affected our decision to move. One incident involved a robber trying to enter the neighboring Wendy's restaurant through the roof, with helicopters and snipers appearing on site. Another incident involved the drug counselor who was on the first floor of our Lauderhill building, and who brought his 9 millimeter pistol to work for protection. He had his pistol stolen and was mugged and struck with his pistol as he was walking out to his car in the back of our building at night. Our decision to move from that Lauderhill building was further expedited when one of our co-tenant's employee's relatives was mugged outside, injuring her hand when the mugger stole her purse and ripped it off her shoulder. She contacted our law firm about suing our building for inadequate security, but we decided that bringing a negligence action for negligent security against our landlord would not be the way to go, at least while we were a tenant there. We then decided that it was time to move.
